Bridget Galsworthy de Estavillo Receives BEM

Bridget Galsworthy de Estavillo a former member of the British Society Board, received the British Empire Medal at a reception held at the British Ambassador’s Residence, for services to the heritage of the Cornish Community in México, on Thursday 5th May 2016.

Guests included members of the British Community who were involved in the project to restore the British Cemetery in Real del Monte, as well as a number of guests from Real del Monte and Tepotzlán where Bridget resides. Family members included her husband Alberto, daughter Jenni Kate and son Joshua. Bridget´s sister Amanda flew in from China and her two sons from Europe.

Bridget chose to receive her honour from HM Ambassador Duncan Taylor. Ironically they knew each other when they were children when both their father´s were in the diplomatic service in Europe. Bridget´s father was British Ambassador to México in the 1970´s and as a result she grew up in the current residence along with her sister Amanda.

Bridget´s mother Jennifer, a native of Cornwall had a long affinity with Real del Monte and the Cornish miners, when her husband was Ambassador to Mexico. The garden of remembrance in the British Cemetery (Panteón Inglés,) is dedicated to Bridget´s mother.
